Silk is said to have been discovered by an emperor's young wife in 2,700BC, and has gone on to become one of the most loved and sought after fibres. Mulberry silk is the finest silk variety in the world, and is farmed in the exotic Zhejiang province of China using techniques perfected over thousands of years. Silk filaments are spun before being either woven or knitted. Each filament may be up to 1,600 yards long, and up to 8 may be woven together to create just one thread. Mulberry silk is a very strong but smooth and light fibre, resulting in exquisitely delicate but long lasting garments.
